Chandigarh, Jan 24 (NationPress) The Sriomani Akali Dal (SAD) declared on Saturday its plans to conduct a series of rallies beginning next month across all Assembly constituencies in Punjab. The aim is to showcase the historic contributions of the party to the state's development and outline the vision for governance in 2027.
This decision emerged from a meeting led by party president Sukhbir Badal, attended by district presidents and constituency heads.
In the meeting, senior party leader Daljit Singh Cheema informed the media that Badal stressed the remarkable achievements of previous SAD administrations, which transformed Punjab into a power-surplus state, connected major cities through four-lane highways, and improved rural infrastructure by adding new thermal power plants and airports.
Cheema pointed out that both the past Congress government and the current Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration have failed to develop significant infrastructure, which has been detrimental to the state's progress.
“We are determined to usher in a new era of development and infrastructure growth to propel Punjab forward,” he asserted.
He emphasized that the Akali Dal would encourage the people of Punjab to support their regional party, while also initiating a public movement against what the party deems the anti-Punjab policies of the AAP government.
“We assure the Punjabis that we will restore law and order, promote peace and communal harmony, and attract investments to create job opportunities for our youth,” he added.
The meeting also resolved to finalize the party's organizational structure by February 10, 2023. It was decided that booth-level committees would be established alongside the formation of various party wings, including the Youth Akali Dal and the Istri Akali Dal.
Additionally, leaders who were pivotal in the recent block samiti and zila parishad elections will be assigned key roles within the organizational framework.
Cheema expressed concern over reports indicating that panchayats were allegedly being pressured into settling outstanding bills with the tubewell corporation, stating that these funds, designated for village development, should not be diverted for such payments.
“We stand with all panchayats resisting these unlawful directives, as central funds allocated for roads, sanitation, drinking water, and street lighting cannot be repurposed for settling water supply bills,” he stated.
The meeting also highlighted what Cheema termed as a deception against the people of Punjab regarding the Sehat Bima Yojana initiated by the AAP government.
He accused the government of engaging in publicity stunts through grand announcements while lacking the financial resources to implement the medical insurance scheme. According to Cheema, this initiative is being utilized as a tactic to gather data for the AAP ahead of the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections.
