Alec Baldwin Expresses Desire to Retire from Acting for Family Focus
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, April 14 (NationPress) Hollywood star Alec Baldwin has voiced his desire to step back from acting. He expressed a wish to "retire and focus on family" following the tragedy surrounding the ‘Rust’ shooting incident.
The 68-year-old actor was involved in a devastating incident on the set of the Western film in October 2021, where a prop gun he was handling accidentally discharged, resulting in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuries to director Joel Souza. This led to a protracted legal battle for Baldwin, who faced manslaughter charges, according to reports from ‘Female First UK’.
While the charges against him were dismissed on two occasions and the legal matter has concluded, Baldwin continues to deal with the repercussions of this tragic event.
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, he reflected, “The tragedy in New Mexico was incredibly hard to process. I ended up spending a lot of time at home with my children for over three years, hardly working at all, and that is changing now. I'm planning to take on new projects.”
However, he also shared, “I got comfortable being at home, and now I don’t want to leave my house. I truly don’t want to work anymore. My priority is to retire and be with my kids.”
Baldwin is a father to seven children under the age of 13 with his wife Hilaria Baldwin, alongside his 30-year-old daughter Ireland from his previous marriage to Kim Basinger.
In 2024, Baldwin's involuntary manslaughter charges were dismissed with prejudice after a judge determined that prosecutors had withheld evidence that could clarify the presence of live ammunition on set. The 30 Rock star has shared insights into his experiences in the upcoming documentary The Trial of Alec Baldwin, which is yet to be publicly released.
