New Delhi, Dec 31 (NationPress) Following India's impressive 5-0 T20I series victory against Sri Lanka, seam-bowling all-rounder Amanjot Kaur was awarded the best fielder medal for her outstanding fielding performance.
“Without a doubt, Amanjot Kaur was the standout fielder of the series,” remarked head coach Amol Muzumdar in a video shared by the BCCI on their social media platforms. In this clip, the all-rounder received the medal amidst loud cheers from her teammates.
In the final match of the series at Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, India triumphed over Sri Lanka by 15 runs. Amanjot delivered a solid all-round performance, scoring 21 runs off 18 balls and registering bowling figures of 1/17, all while excelling in her fielding duties.
This series victory concluded a remarkable year for India, which included winning the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup on home turf, defending their U19 Women’s T20 World Cup title, and achieving series victories against England during the white-ball tour.
“Wishing you a very happy new year. Let’s continue into 2026 the way we entered 2025. Well done once again. A 5-nil victory is a powerful statement,” Muzumdar added.
After the New Year festivities, the Indian team members will regroup for the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL), scheduled from January 9 to February 5 across two venues - DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai and Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.
The tournament will kick off with the two-time champions Mumbai Indians, captained by Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, facing off against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, led by Smriti Mandhana.
While MI enters the league as the defending champions, RCB remains the only other team to have claimed the WPL trophy. The Delhi Capitals, captained this year by Jemimah Rodrigues, have been runners-up three times under the leadership of Meg Lanning, while both Gujarat Giants, led by Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner, and UP Warriorz are yet to reach the final.
