Amaravati, Dec 10 (NationPress) The Andhra Pradesh High Court has instructed the CID and ACB to initiate legal proceedings in the theft incident involving Parakamani at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Tirumala.

The court has granted permission for the Directors General of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) and the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to file FIRs and proceed as per the legal framework.

Both agencies are authorized to investigate the compromise made in the Lok Adalat and the assets belonging to the accused, C. V. Ravi Kumar. They have been directed to collaborate and share information during the investigation.

Furthermore, they are required to coordinate with the Income Tax and the Enforcement Directorate.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which previously investigated the Parakamani theft, submitted its findings to the court on December 2. Ravi Shankar Ayyanar, the Additional Director General of the CID, headed the SIT and presented the report in a sealed envelope.

The CID initiated its investigation following the High Court's order on a petition contesting the closure of the theft case in the Lok Adalat.

Ravi Kumar, an employee of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), was apprehended for stealing $920 from the Parakamani, which is a center for counting coins and currency notes, in April 2023.

The theft case was initially filed at the Tirumala police station but was later taken to the Lok Adalat, where a settlement was reached in September 2023. Ravi Kumar agreed to donate seven properties, valued at Rs 40 crore and located in Tirupati and Chennai, to TTD.

A petition was subsequently lodged in the Andhra Pradesh High Court, asserting that no investigation had occurred regarding the theft case, as the former governing board of the TTD had closed the case post-compromise in the Lok Adalat. The petitioner, Macherla Sreenivas, demanded an inquiry into the case's closure.

The SIT, which began its investigation in October, has interrogated former TTD Chairpersons B. Karunakar Reddy and Y.V. Subba Reddy, former TTD executive officer Dharma Reddy, along with several other TTD and police officials.

In another significant development, the High Court directed the CID to present a report on the post-mortem examination of Y. Satish Kumar, the theft case complainant.

Satish Kumar, a former Assistant Vigilance and Security Officer (AVSO) of TTD and the complainant in the theft case, was discovered deceased under suspicious circumstances on the railway tracks at Komali village, near Tadipatri in Anantapur district on November 14. The post-mortem examination revealed that he had sustained a blow to the back of his head from a sharp object.

Point of View

This ruling underscores the importance of judicial oversight in cases involving public trust and significant financial implications.
