Los Angeles, May 8 (NationPress) Actress Ariel Winter, recognized for her role in the sitcom ‘Modern Family’, has candidly shared her experiences regarding the challenges of fame throughout her time on this beloved series.
Winter revealed that while portraying Alex Dunphy over 11 seasons of the 22-time Emmy-winning show, she faced harsh scrutiny from the media regarding her appearance, as reported by ‘Variety’.
At the start of the show, Winter was merely 14 years old, making the adverse attention even more challenging to navigate.
In an interview with ‘People’ magazine, she expressed, “Every headline I encountered about myself was filled with negativity, with adults writing articles that criticized how I looked, suggesting I was pregnant or labeling me in derogatory terms. I was just 14. It significantly harmed my self-esteem.”
She added, “Regardless of what I was facing personally, I was consistently a target. It was incredibly tough to look in the mirror and think, ‘I appreciate this version of me.’”
According to ‘Variety’, after ‘Modern Family’ concluded in 2020, Winter and her boyfriend departed from Los Angeles but insists she “did not exit the industry.”
Beyond her acting career, Winter is involved with the advocacy group SOSA (Safe From Online Sex Abuse), which aims to protect young individuals from online predators.
“Technically, yes, I’m a survivor. I’ve endured some tough times,” Winter stated. “However, many have faced challenges. Referring to me as a survivor detracts from my mission, which is to assist others and highlight those in need.”
‘Modern Family’, created by Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd, aired for 11 seasons from September 23, 2009, to April 8, 2020. The series chronicles the lives of three distinct yet interconnected family setups residing in suburban Los Angeles. Levitan and Lloyd conceived the series by sharing anecdotes from their own “modern families.”
