Kolkata, Aug 5 (NationPress) Rebel Trinamool Congress leader and four-time Lok Sabha member, Kalyan Banerjee, has ramped up his social media attacks against fellow parliamentarian Mahua Moitra, accusing her of lacking fundamental gratitude.
On Monday afternoon, Banerjee declared his resignation from the role of Chief Whip of Trinamool Congress in the Lok Sabha, and has since been vocal in his criticism of Moitra.
In a social media post, he recounted how he supported Moitra when she faced intense scrutiny on the floor of the Parliament in 2023 over cash-for-query allegations.
“In 2023, I stood by Ms. Moitra when she was under fire in Parliament - I did so out of conviction, not compulsion. Today, she repays that support by labeling me a misogynist. I owe the nation an apology for defending someone who lacks basic gratitude. Let people see her words for what they are and judge accordingly,” Banerjee stated.
Just hours after announcing his resignation from the Chief Whip position, Banerjee made a lengthy post on social media, vehemently criticizing Moitra.
“I have taken note of the recent personal remarks made by Ms. Mahua Moitra in a public podcast. Her choice of words, including dehumanizing language such as comparing a fellow MP to a 'pig', is not only regrettable but signifies a profound disregard for basic norms of civil discourse,” Banerjee wrote.
The strong response from the Trinamool MP followed Moitra's controversial comment where she likened him to a “pig.”
“You don't wrestle with a pig. Because the pig enjoys it and you end up dirty,” Moitra remarked during a podcast interview.
Banerjee has faced backlash from party leadership, including the Chief Minister, due to his recent confrontations with Moitra regarding his remarks on a law college student's rape incident at Kasba in Kolkata.
