Kolkata, April 4 (NationPress) A day after the Supreme Court upheld the cancellation of 25,753 school jobs in West Bengal, the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) chairman Siddhartha Majumdar announced on Friday that the process to fill the vacant positions cannot be completed within the upcoming three months.
The WBSSC Chairman emphasized that while it has been widely reported that the apex court mandated the filling of vacant posts in three months, such a deadline does not appear in the court's order.
Majumdar noted that during the WBSSC panel for 2016, which has now been entirely cancelled by the apex court, 22 lakh candidates participated in the written examination for the roles of secondary and higher secondary teachers, as well as non-teaching staff in Group-C and Group-D categories.
"Naturally, selecting from such a large pool of aspirants will take considerable time. The order does not stipulate that the fresh recruitment process must conclude within three months. The timeline will largely depend on the number of candidates participating in the new recruitment process," Majumdar informed reporters.
He further stated that the commission must prioritize fresh recruitment efforts in the near future. "We, at WBSSC, have convened a meeting regarding this issue. The state government has also communicated with us about this matter. However, a final decision will only be made once all legal aspects are clarified," Majumdar remarked.
Moreover, he highlighted that Thursday’s ruling does not clarify who among the 25,753 individuals will qualify for the fresh recruitment process and which candidates might receive age relaxations.
