Guwahati, Feb 21 (NationPress) Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi stated on Saturday that there was no animosity within the party during Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's recent visit to Assam, despite senior leader Bhupen Kumar Borah resigning from Congress to join the BJP.

“Priyanka Gandhi engaged with everyone during her Assam trip. There is no animosity among us. I attempted to convince Bhupen Borah to remain, but it appears he had already made his decision,” Bordoloi informed reporters.

His comments came following Borah's resignation from Congress, a move that has sparked new political speculation in the state in light of the upcoming Assembly elections.

Bhupen Borah, who previously served as the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president, officially departed from the party earlier this week and is anticipated to join the ruling BJP on Sunday.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was in Assam recently as part of the party's organizational outreach and to evaluate political readiness in the state. During her visit, she convened meetings with senior leaders, MPs, MLAs, and party workers to understand ground-level issues and bolster coordination within the party.

The departure of Bhupen Borah is viewed as a significant blow to Congress in Assam, where the party is striving to rejuvenate its organizational framework following a series of electoral losses. Borah led the state unit during a challenging political period filled with defections and internal strife.

While Congress leadership has asserted that organizational shifts are part of an ongoing restructuring, the BJP has suggested that Borah’s resignation highlights growing dissatisfaction within Congress.

Countering these claims, Bordoloi emphasized that Congress remains united and focused on its political goals in Assam. “This is a democratic party, and differences of opinion are natural. Our main objective is to strengthen the organization and address issues like unemployment, inflation, and the overall failures of the BJP government in Assam,” he declared.

Political analysts suggest that Priyanka Gandhi's visit to Assam signifies a renewed effort by Congress to recalibrate its strategy in the state amid an increasingly competitive political environment.

Point of View

The ongoing political dynamics in Assam highlight the challenges that Congress faces amidst internal changes and opposition pressures. The departure of influential leaders like Borah underscores the urgency for Congress to reassess its strategies and reconnect with the electorate effectively.
