New Delhi/Patna, April 15 (NationPress) In a significant step to strengthen the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) in anticipation of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections later this year, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav convened with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and prominent leader Rahul Gandhi in the national capital on Tuesday.
After the discussions, Yadav characterized the meeting as “positive” and stressed the importance of unity within the opposition coalition.
“We deliberated on the strategy for the Bihar Assembly elections in 2025. The atmosphere was optimistic. A subsequent meeting is scheduled for April 17 in Patna with our Left partners, including CPI-ML, CPI, and CPI-M, to finalize our strategy,” he informed the media.
He reaffirmed the Mahagathbandhan’s preparedness, stating: “We are completely ready and will contest with full vigor. The people of Bihar have decided to change the government.”
Congress chief Kharge took to X to echo Yadav’s sentiments, asserting a shift in the political landscape in Bihar.
“Today, we met Bihar's former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, and the meeting was constructive. Change is inevitable in Bihar this time. In the upcoming elections, we will provide a robust, fair, and welfare-focused alternative for the citizens of Bihar. Bihar will be liberated from the BJP and its opportunistic alliance,” he shared.
He emphasized that the youth, farmers, and marginalized communities are all looking towards the Mahagathbandhan for effective governance.
Senior Congress figure KC Venugopal, RJD Rajya Sabha members Sanjay Yadav and Manoj Kumar Jha, Congress's Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru, and various other leaders were also present during the meeting.
While specific details were not disclosed, sources confirm that seat-sharing discussions were a critical aspect of the meeting.
During the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, the RJD contested 144 of the total 243 seats, winning 75; the Congress contested 70 seats and secured 19; the CPI-ML contested 19 seats and won 12; while the CPI and CPI-M contested on 6 and 4 seats respectively.
The Congress’s previous underperformance has led to calls within the RJD and Left factions to revise the allocation for 2025 to accurately reflect the current political landscape.
