New Delhi, March 27 (NationPress) The initiative to rename the Mustafabad Assembly constituency in Delhi has gained significant traction. The Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly and BJP MLA representing Mustafabad, Mohan Singh Bisht, is poised to introduce a private member resolution in the Assembly advocating for this change.
Bisht's resolution is included in the agenda for Friday (March 28), indicating it will be presented in the House on that day.
The proposal states, “This House resolves that the name of the Mustafabad Assembly Constituency may be changed to Shiv Vihar Assembly Constituency considering the sentiments of the voters in the constituency.”
During the recent Delhi Assembly elections, Mohan Singh Bisht vowed that if the electorate chose him again as their MLA, he would pursue the renaming of Mustafabad. Following his re-election, he is now taking steps to fulfill this electoral commitment.
Bisht emphasizes that he has prioritized the development of the region above issues of caste and religion.
Having served as the MLA for the area from 1998 to 2008, he claims to have a deep understanding of local issues. He noted that approximately 58 percent of residents belong to the majority community, asserting that their sentiments should be prioritized. This is the motivation behind his desire to rename the area to Shiv Vihar.
The Mustafabad Assembly constituency has a Muslim demographic of around 40-42 percent.
This locality also witnessed turmoil during the 2020 Delhi riots, which brought the name Mustafabad into the spotlight.
Mohan Singh Bisht's political journey has been quite remarkable.
He was first elected as the MLA from the Karawal Nagar seat in 1998, serving until 2015.
In the 2015 elections, he faced defeat by AAP's Kapil Mishra but made a comeback in 2020 by defeating Durgesh Pathak, thus re-entering the Assembly.
