Did BJD Just Expose Odisha CM Majhi's Claims on Corruption?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhubaneswar, Jan 7 (NationPress) The Biju Janata Dal (BJD), currently in the opposition, has sharply criticized Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for his comments made during an event in Khordha earlier today. Majhi alleged that there is widespread corruption linked to the 5T schools initiative implemented during the prior administration.
The BJD issued a statement asserting that such accusations are merely attempts by the Chief Minister and his administration to distract from their own shortcomings. They claimed that the people of Odisha are now aware of what they termed the fabrications being spread by the government led by Mohan Majhi.
BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty remarked on Wednesday that within merely 18 months of governance, the BJP-led administration has reached unprecedented levels of failure across various sectors. He accused the BJP of coming to power through exaggerated promises and unfounded allegations of corruption against the previous government.
“The incompetence and failures of the BJP government have become widely known. While they pledged to elevate Odisha to the top, they have instead secured the position of being the least effective government in the entire nation. Despite budget allocations, most departments are struggling to utilize even 40 percent of their designated funds. The arbitrary and inconsistent decisions made by the government have led to widespread hardship among the populace,” Mohanty stated.
He highlighted several areas of failure for the BJP government, including recent confusion regarding pollution certificate regulations, a reduction in Central grants to the state, a notable decrease in revenue from both minor and major minerals, and an increase in crimes against women.
Moreover, Mohanty asserted that the BJP government has failed to uncover any corruption cases in the 18 months since taking office, while continuing to issue what he termed groundless accusations against the prior administration.
“On one hand, the Chief Minister blames the previous government for corruption linked to the 5T schools, yet on the other, the same BJP administration has officially recognized through the ‘Utkarsa Odisha’ industrial initiative that Odisha possesses effective institutional frameworks like 5T to attract businesses,” Mohanty emphasized.
Accusing the BJP government of double standards, Mohanty urged Chief Minister Majhi to cease such allegations and concentrate on enhancing governance and administrative efficiency within the state.
