New Delhi, Sep 24 (NationPress) As the Congress Working Committee (CWC) met in Patna for its first post-Independence assembly in Bihar, both the BJP and JD(U) swiftly dismissed the gathering as a mere symbolic act that would not lead to any meaningful results.
The meeting, which aimed to strategize for the upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar and to amplify the party’s campaign against the BJP over alleged “vote chori” (vote theft), chose Patna as the venue to convey a significant political message. However, the opposition parties did not seem impressed.
In a statement to IANS, JD(U) leader Ashok Choudhary expressed skepticism about the timing of the meeting.
“This is a positive move for Congress, but had they acted sooner, the outcomes might have been more favorable. It appears more like an effort to secure additional seats from RJD than a well-thought-out strategy,” he remarked.
Another senior JD(U) figure, KC Tyagi, criticized the Congress’s approach: “Congress seems reluctant to contest elections without RJD support, believing that Rahul Gandhi holds more appeal than Tejashwi Yadav. The CWC meeting appears to be an internal maneuver to suppress any opposition to the Chief Minister’s position in Bihar.”
Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha also condemned Congress, stating, “Congress ruled for decades but never deemed Bihar significant enough for a major party meeting. Now, with elections approaching, they suddenly remember Bihar. This isn't about development but about signaling to allies and voters.”
BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain remarked, “This CWC meeting will not alter anything. It serves as a political formality attended primarily by mostly inactive Congress leaders. Just as they faltered in Delhi and UP, they will meet with similar failure here. The NDA will dominate Bihar, and this gathering will not affect our chances.”
BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal took a jab at Congress’s electoral viability.
“The Congress is holding a CWC meeting in Bihar with the elections in sight. They are trying to regain their footing in Bihar, but since their ship has already sunk, they are attempting to push a sinking vessel forward,” he told IANS.
In contrast, Congress MP Sukhdeo Bhagat defended the CWC meeting, framing it within a larger ideological battle.
“Rahul Gandhi is spearheading a campaign against electoral fraud and advocating for the Constitution. The CWC meeting will deliver a powerful message. Remember, Mahatma Gandhi initiated his movement from Champaran. Bihar is a cradle of revolution, and once again, a revolution is set to commence from here,” he stated.
