Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday, 6 May 2025, visited the Kali Temple in CR Park, New Delhi, to offer prayers celebrating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s victory in the West Bengal assembly elections. She was accompanied by BJP President Nitin Nabin, marking a public display of the party's jubilation over what leaders are calling a historic mandate.

What Rekha Gupta Said After the Prayers

After paying obeisance at the temple, Chief Minister Gupta described the Bengal mandate as a turning point in Indian politics. She said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the saffron flag is now "flying high from Gangotri to Gangasagar" — invoking a geographic sweep from the Himalayan source of the Ganga to its mouth in Bengal.

Gupta also credited the victory to policies focused on women's dignity, safety, and empowerment, arguing that the result reflects growing public faith in development and nationalism-driven politics.

Sharp Attack on the Opposition Over Nari Shakti Bill

Referring to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam — the women's reservation legislation — Chief Minister Gupta launched a pointed attack on the Opposition. She argued that parties which had opposed the Bill in Parliament have been "decisively rejected" by the women of Bengal.

"The mothers and sisters of Bengal have sent a strong message through their votes," she said, asserting that women in the state have "firmly turned away from fear, violence and appeasement politics." She added: "They have shown they are ready to stand up for their dignity and rights against any oppressive force."

Tribute to BJP Workers and Democracy

Gupta called the win a tribute to countless BJP workers, saying their struggle and sacrifices have borne fruit. "This victory is a testament to unwavering faith in democracy," she said, adding that the courage shown by the people of Bengal in choosing governance over fear "serves as an inspiration for the entire country."

She also noted that despite an atmosphere of fear and intimidation, women in Bengal voted fearlessly and played a key role in strengthening democratic institutions.

Senior Leaders Present at the Temple

The prayer visit was attended by several senior BJP figures, including Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj, and Greater Kailash MLA Shikha Rai. The gathering underscored the party's effort to frame the Bengal result as a collective achievement of its Delhi and national leadership.

With the Bengal win now being projected as a template for BJP's broader political strategy, all eyes will be on how the party translates this momentum into governance and its next electoral cycle.
