Bengaluru, Jan 21 (NationPress) The Karnataka unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticized the Congress-led government following allegations that a party leader threatened and verbally abused a female municipal commissioner. They stated that there is no greater embarrassment than the police's inability to locate the accused, Congress leader Rajeev Gowda.
During a press conference at the BJP state headquarters, Jagannath Bhavan, on Wednesday, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, made these remarks.
Referring to the Shidlaghatta incident, Narayanaswamy highlighted how the Congress’ defeated candidate, Rajeev Gowda, verbally assaulted an officer and how the government seems to be protecting him, a fact that is clear to everyone.
“They claim to have kept him close, even providing him shelter, and have assembled four police teams. They keep promising arrest 'today or tomorrow.' He is accessible to journalists, yet unavailable to the police?” he questioned.
Narayanaswamy sarcastically remarked that there can be no greater absurdity than the police's failure to apprehend Rajeev Gowda.
He pointed out that the court had recently reprimanded the government for failing to invoke appropriate legal sections regarding the statements made. “If an opposition supporter posts a single comment online, they act as if he must be jailed immediately. Given the court’s remarks, one must wonder if this government possesses any sense of dignity or shame,” he stated.
Narayanaswamy further alleged that this situation allows the Excise Minister to engage in corrupt practices without fear of repercussions. He also accused the Chief Minister of orchestrating the wrongdoing in the Valmiki Corporation scam and then dismissing the culprits.
“This minister is also now in a position where he cannot evade accountability. The Assembly session starts tomorrow, and we will demand his resignation and stage a protest in the House,” he asserted.
On the VB RAM G issue, Narayanaswamy announced that senior national leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan would be arriving on Thursday to engage with members of both Houses. He mentioned that NDA allies, including the BJP and the JD(S), would also be participating in discussions with party leaders.
“The Congress government is now attempting to oppose this very issue. They have announced a special discussion in the House tomorrow. Our position is clear: we want the scheme to genuinely benefit the people,” he stated.
Narayanaswamy emphasized that their goal is for it to be a legitimate scheme rather than a scam. “So far, it has not been a scheme, but a scam,” he alleged, adding that the Congress government has renamed it multiple times. “They have engaged in looting while invoking Mahatma Gandhi’s name,” he charged.
He claimed that the Excise Minister had acknowledged attempts to target him by involving his son's name in the matter. “There is no smoke without fire. It’s true that this minister is entangled in this case,” he said, expressing suspicion that the Chief Minister could also be involved.
Narayanaswamy concluded by stating that when Congress leaders claim they would not be affected even if opposition members protest, it reflects that corruption has become the Congress party’s guiding principle.
“From the moment the Congress began governing this nation, it has been drenched in corruption. Consequently, the electorate has resolved that whenever elections arise, they should be sent home,” he remarked.
He also asserted that regardless of the number of protests or complaints lodged, the government remains indifferent.
