BJP's R. Ashoka slams Karnataka govt over 9,600-acre housing plan on farmland near Bengaluru
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, R. Ashoka, on Wednesday sharply criticised the state government for its reported plan to set up a government housing project on 9,600 acres of agricultural land in Bidadi and Kanchaganahalli near Bengaluru. Ashoka alleged the move targets fertile farmland historically linked to Nadaprabhu Kempegowda, the founder of Bengaluru city, where crops such as coconut, areca nut, and silk are cultivated.
Key Allegations Against the State Government
Addressing reporters, Ashoka alleged that the Congress-led Karnataka government was pushing ahead with the project despite approximately seven lakh vacant private and government flats already existing in the region. He claimed that of the 9,600 acres in question, around 3,000 acres belong to the government, and accused the administration of using the project as a vehicle for financial irregularities.
