BJP Government Increases Northeast Budget Allocation Fivefold: Ashwini Vaishnaw

Guwahati, Jan 3 (NationPress) - Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated on Friday that the annual budget allocation for the northeast has been increased by five times since the BJP government took power at the Centre.

On Friday, three new trains were inaugurated in Guwahati by Union Minister Vaishnaw.

During the event, he remarked, "The yearly budget for railway infrastructure enhancement in the Northeast region has been augmented by more than five times for the current year compared to the period of 2009-2014."

He added that the introduction of new train services is anticipated to enhance regional connectivity and offer better travel options for passengers in Assam and adjoining areas.

Present at the Guwahati Railway Station were Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita, along with other MPs and MLAs at various locations.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between NIELIT and Tata Electronics Pvt. Ltd., exchanged in the presence of the attending Ministers.

The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), a leading institution under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has been recognized as a deemed university under a unique category by the University Grants Commission.

According to an official announcement, the main campus in Ropar, along with its 11 constituent units in Agartala, Aizawl, Ajmer, Aurangabad, Calicut, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Gorakhpur, Patna, and Srinagar, will redefine education.

"It will offer undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs in cutting-edge digital technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, semiconductor design & manufacturing, Cyber Security and Forensics, Internet of Things, Automotive Electronics, Machine Learning, Blockchain Technology, etc. The curriculum will be developed in conjunction with industry needs, ensuring the workforce acquires the requisite skills," the official statement elaborated.

The newly launched trains comprise the Guwahati-New Bongaigaon daily passenger, Tinsukia-Naharlagun tri-weekly Express, and Guwahati-North Lakhimpur Bi-weekly Jan Shatabdi Express.

A new FM Transmitter at Akashvani Kokrajhar was also inaugurated.

This initiative will benefit over 30 lakh residents in the region, including those in Dhubri, Bongaigaon, and Chirang districts, offering them clearer and higher-quality FM broadcasts, as stated in an official announcement.
