Davanagere, Nov 25 (NationPress) The BJP has initiated a statewide protest against the Congress-led administration in Karnataka on Tuesday, calling for compensation for farmers in distress.
Leading the demonstration in Davanagere city was BJP state president and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra.
Participating in the protest were BJP Kisan Morcha State President Nadhahalli, senior leader and MLC C.T. Ravi, along with leaders Renukacharya, Madal Virupakshappa, and numerous district leaders.
Thousands of farmers and party supporters joined the demonstration, voicing their discontent against the state government.
During his address to the media in Davanagere, Vijayendra stated that the statewide protest was launched against the anti-farmer policies of the Congress government.
He accused the state government of committing an unpardonable offense by neglecting the challenges faced by distressed farmers.
Vijayendra claimed that while essential farmer issues remain unresolved, the entire state cabinet is currently in Delhi.
“When the Chief Minister convened a meeting to discuss maize procurement, the state Agriculture Minister was in Delhi,” he noted.
He declared that protests will continue across all 224 Assembly constituencies on November 27 and 28.
On December 1 and 2, the BJP Kisan Morcha will hold demonstrations at all district headquarters.
“The concerns of sugarcane growers are still unresolved. Farmers of maize and jowar are protesting. Ongoing agitations are happening in Lakshmeshwar. In Nargund, farmer leader Shankranna Ambali is on a hunger strike. Protests are also taking place in Bagalkot, Shivamogga, and other districts. Although the Centre has announced the support price, the state government has failed to open procurement centers,” he alleged.
He insisted that the Chief Minister must promptly establish maize procurement centers.
Furthermore, he criticized the government for not installing the 32 crest gates at the Tungabhadra reservoir, stating that farmers in Koppal, Ballari, Vijayanagar, and Raichur districts are unable to cultivate their second crop.
He demanded compensation of Rs 25,000 per acre for the affected farmers.
