Should the Opposition Learn from Bihar's SIR Process?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 14 (NationPress) During the Congress party's rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on Sunday, which addressed the alleged 'vote chori', BJP leaders refuted these claims and scrutinized the purpose and magnitude of the demonstration. Bihar Minister Dilip Jaiswal proposed that opposition leaders could benefit from understanding Bihar's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
In response to the Congress rally, Jaiswal defended the SIR initiative, highlighting Bihar as a model of success. He stated, “The SIR process was initially launched in Bihar, concentrating on revising the donor list. In Bihar, over a crore donors enthusiastically endorsed SIR and the diligent updating of the list. Following the completion of the SIR process, we observed an impressive voter turnout, with donors contributing openly. Opposition leaders ought to learn from this successful case,” Jaiswal remarked.
BJP MLA Gopal Sharma also criticized the Congress rally, questioning the appropriateness of the venue and the allegations of electoral fraud. “The Ramlila Maidan is limited in capacity, so how can such a large rally take place there? It seats 2,200 people, yet approximately 3,000 attended. If a larger rally occurs, where would attendees go—Bhavani Niketan, Sanganeri Stadium, or Vidyadhar Nagar Stadium?” Sharma argued.
He further accused Congress of utilizing the venue for symbolic purposes rather than genuine public support. “Congress consistently holds rallies at Ramlila Maidan due to its historical ties with Ramleela. It’s a traditional location, and they are upholding that tradition. If there is any vote chor globally, none are greater than the Congress,” the BJP MLA asserted.
Meanwhile, Congress has intensified its campaign against what it deems vote chori, organizing a rally at Ramlila Maidan to criticize the central government and the Election Commission of India (ECI). The party claims there is collusion between the government and the ECI to distort electoral processes, a claim that the ruling party vehemently denies.
The Congress leadership is spearheading the protest, with party National President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi anticipated to address the crowd. Other prominent figures, including K.C. Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, are also taking part in the rally.
To bolster their presence, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, along with all Congress legislators from the state and over 1,000 party workers, have arrived in Delhi to join the demonstration.
