Shivamogga (Karnataka), June 10 (NationPress) BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra has announced plans for a significant protest against Karnataka's Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and their government concerning the tragic Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede that resulted in the loss of 11 lives during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebrations on June 4.
In a media briefing on Tuesday, he revealed that the BJP intends to continue its protests until the current state government is removed from power.
“The protest is set for June 13 at Freedom Park in Bengaluru, with participation expected from BJP workers, families of the victims, and those affected. Anticipations are that 15,000 to 20,000 demonstrators will be present,” he noted.
Regarding the stampede incident at the RCB victory celebration, Vijayendra stated that while the RCB, Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and event organizers DNA are not to be blamed, the Chief Minister is the primary accused, followed by the Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Parameshwara. Responsibilities also lie with the RCB, KSCA, and DNA.
The BJP has called for a thorough investigation led by a sitting High Court judge, but the government has delegated the inquiry to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). They have also requested an assessment by a retired High Court judge.
Vijayendra contended that this action was an attempt to appoint a preferred candidate, exonerate the state government, blame officials, and evade accountability.
He urged that if the state government has any integrity, it must ensure the investigation is conducted by a sitting High Court judge.
Vijayendra stressed that the government cannot evade responsibility for the Chinnaswamy Stadium incident.
He criticized RCB fans for throwing slippers and stones near the Vidhana Soudha steps, claiming that the leaders are more interested in selfies and fame, thus tarnishing the state's reputation.
He pointed out that even the Governor was misled into attending the event.
“Did we instruct them to hold the event at Vidhana Soudha? We had sought permission for a procession. If a procession had occurred, perhaps this tragedy could have been avoided,” he responded to inquiries.
He emphasized that this protest is on behalf of the fans and questioned the government's lack of accountability.
He asked, “Isn’t maintaining law and order the government's duty? Should it be the responsibility of the Opposition?”
He mentioned having penned an open letter to the Chief Minister to convey the sentiments of the nation to the state leader.
Vijayendra expressed that the letter aims to ensure that the CM, Deputy CM, and the state government grasp the emotions of families mourning their lost loved ones and those still in distress.
