Bengaluru, July 18 (NationPress) The BJP has condemned the Karnataka government for its recent report regarding the Bengaluru stampede, which unfairly assigned blame to the police and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for this tragic event.
During a press conference at the party office in Bengaluru, BJP MLA C. N. Ashwath Narayan expressed strong disapproval of the government’s findings on the incident. He stated, "The report is utterly unacceptable. Police personnel had raised objections to the event, yet the blame has been shifted onto them and RCB. As a result, industries are leaving the state, and no future sporting events will be hosted here."
Referring to the stampede that resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals during the RCB victory celebrations, he questioned, "Who is accountable for maintaining law and order? Why did the Deputy Chief Minister attend the stadium without proper authorization? Even as lives were being lost, he was preoccupied with celebrating. The Chief Minister, upon learning of the fatalities, continued to dine on masala dosa at a local hotel."
He further criticized, "Why was a victory celebration arranged near Vidhana Soudha without consent? Is this government being influenced by RCB, KSCA, and DNA? They should feel ashamed; taking lives seems to have become their 'accomplishment.'"
In addition, BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra commented, "Justice Michael D'Cunha has yet to provide a full report. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar were racing to take credit for RCB's success, and their desperate quest for publicity led to the tragic loss of 11 lives."
He also criticized the administration for presenting a 'half-baked' status report to the High Court. "The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister should have accepted accountability for this situation," he added.
The Karnataka government's status report submitted to the High Court primarily blamed RCB for the incident. In addressing the specific inquiries from the court, the state government referenced RCB's social media posts celebrating the victory, including a video featuring cricketer Virat Kohli.
