Belagavi, April 15 (NationPress) BJP state president and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra has accused Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of initiating efforts that aim to create a divide between Hindus and Muslims through the caste census.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, he responded to inquiries and stated that even though the state government lacks the authority to carry out a caste census, they have nonetheless moved forward with it.

“There is no implementation of reservation based on the caste census, nor is it feasible. This report is outdated - over 10 years old. According to the Backwards Classes Commission, such surveys should occur every decade. The government’s claims about implementation are merely a façade,” Vijayendra remarked.

He accused the Congress party of effectively adopting the British strategy of “divide and rule” in the nation.

“During Siddaramaiah’s previous term as Chief Minister, he tried to ignite controversy by designating Veerashaiva-Lingayat as a distinct religion. That attempt failed,” he noted.

Vijayendra suggested that Congress is now recalling Ambedkar and Muslims, but they are merely utilizing Muslims as a vote bank.

He further expressed that both Congress and Siddaramaiah lack genuineness in their approach towards marginalized castes and communities, using them solely for political gain.

“The BJP is dedicated to promoting economic, educational, and social justice for backward, oppressed, and marginalized communities. In contrast, Siddaramaiah is exploiting this matter as a political maneuver to solidify his voter base,” he claimed.

He mentioned that the H. Kantharaj report was submitted in 2015. “What actions did Siddaramaiah take in the following four years? If he was genuinely concerned, why didn’t he implement it during his prior tenure?” he questioned.

The Leader of the Opposition, R. Ashoka, remarked that the last time they attempted to declare the Lingayat community as a separate religion, they faced backlash.

“Now they are attempting to put the caste census report into action. This time, they will also face consequences from the public. The survey indicates that Muslims represent the largest demographic in the state. Why do they require minority status? If they hold the top position in terms of numbers, they should be excluded from the minority list,” he argued.

He stated that the Lingayat community is fragmented into subcastes and not regarded as a single group during the survey.

“In Vokkaligas, numerous subcastes are overlooked,” he concluded.
