BJP President Nitin Nabin meets national general secretaries to chart poll strategy
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Nabin on Friday, 9 October 2026, convened a meeting with the party's National General Secretaries at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi to finalise organisational strategy ahead of upcoming Assembly elections. The discussions centred on action plans and internal coordination as the party steps up its electoral preparedness.
What Was Discussed
In a post on social media platform X, Nabin confirmed the meeting, stating: 'Today, at the BJP headquarters, I held a meeting with the National General Secretaries and had a detailed discussion on various organisational matters and upcoming action plans.' The session was described as wide-ranging, covering both ground-level party work and forward-looking electoral positioning.
BJP Celebrates Bye-Election Victories
The meeting coincided with the BJP marking wins in recent bye-elections — securing the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat in Assam and two Assembly seats, Nandigram and Rejinagar, in West Bengal. The timing of these results added momentum to the party's internal review session.
Nabin Attacks Congress and INDIA Bloc
A day earlier, on Thursday, Nabin launched a sharp offensive against the Indian National Congress (Congress) and the INDIA bloc over their protests targeting the Election Commission of India (ECI) in the national capital. He alleged the demonstrations were 'timed' with elections and driven by an intent to extract electoral dividend rather than genuine democratic concern.
Nabin contended that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to public welfare was the primary inspiration keeping the party's workers in 'mission mode, 24x7'. Taking direct aim at Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and the INDIA bloc, Nabin characterised them as possessing an 'anarchist mindset' and accused them of seeking to 'inject poison into society' through what he called 'unfounded and baseless' allegations of vote theft against the ECI.
Nabin's Challenge to the Opposition
Questioning the internal consistency of the Opposition's stance, Nabin pointed out that the same Election Commission oversaw polls in Kerala and Tamil Nadu — states where the INDIA bloc holds power. 'If their allegations were true, it was this very Election Commission that conducted the elections in Kerala. In Tamil Nadu, where they came into power through the backdoor, the elections were also conducted by this very Election Commission,' he said.
Nabin went further, demanding that Rahul Gandhi resign if he had, as Nabin put it, 'the courage' — a pointed challenge that is likely to sharpen the already contentious pre-election political atmosphere. With Assembly polls on the horizon, both the BJP and the Opposition are visibly sharpening their messaging and mobilisation frameworks.
