Raipur, June 24 (NationPress) In a shocking incident echoing the notorious Meerut drum murder, the remains of a young man were found in the Indraprastha Colony of Raipur, located within the DD Nagar police jurisdiction. The body was discovered stuffed inside a suitcase and encased in cement.
Authorities have identified the victim as Kishor Paikra, approximately 40 years old, according to a senior police official who spoke to IANS.
Believed to be two to three days old, the body exhibited signs of violence, including a slit throat and bound limbs. The victim had been contorted to fit into the suitcase, triggering a wave of horror throughout the neighborhood. Locals reported a foul odor emanating from nearby bushes, leading to a police investigation.
“The Delhi Police have apprehended two individuals, identified as Ankit Upadhyay and Shivani Sharma, in connection with this case. Our team has traveled to Delhi, and they will be brought back to Raipur for further questioning. More information about the victim is still emerging,” stated Daulat Ram Porte, Additional Superintendent of Police, in an interview with IANS.
The victim's remains were located inside a locked suitcase, which had been placed within a large tin trunk and abandoned in an isolated area.
“The exact motive for this heinous act remains unclear, but it has been confirmed that it is not related to a love affair,” the officer added.
“Once we interrogate the suspects and conduct a more thorough investigation, we will ascertain the date, time, and motive behind this crime. The body was recovered on Monday evening.”
Forensic specialists believe that the cement was used to hinder decomposition and mask the smell. Despite this, the odor eventually alerted residents, leading to the grim discovery.
CCTV footage from the vicinity captured two individuals transporting the trunk in an old vehicle. Additionally, a woman on a scooter was seen circling the car, raising suspicions regarding her involvement.
Investigators noted that the vehicle displayed a fake license plate, originally registered in 2005 under a fictitious name, indicating a calculated effort to misdirect law enforcement.
The trunk has been traced back to a shop in the Petline area of Golbazar. The shopkeeper informed the police that a young man and woman purchased the trunk earlier that Monday morning under suspicious conditions. His detailed description has provided significant leads.
This case bears unsettling similarities to a March incident in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, where a woman and her lover murdered her husband, dismembered the body, and concealed it in a cement-filled drum. That case also involved extensive efforts to hide the crime.
