Hyderabad, Jan 25 (NationPress) - Accusing the Revanth Reddy administration in Telangana of significant corruption within the public sector entity Singareni Collieries, BRS leader and former minister T. Harish Rao has called for the immediate revocation of all tenders issued under the site visit certificate.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader stated to the press on Sunday that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is the central figure in the Singareni scandal, with his brother-in-law, Srujan Reddy, purportedly reaping the primary benefits.

Harish Rao, serving as the deputy floor leader of BRS in the Telangana Assembly, indicated that the annulment of the Naini tender itself suggests serious misconduct has occurred.

He accused the government of altering tender regulations to favor select contractors associated with the Chief Minister and urged a judicial or Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into all coal and solar tenders related to Singareni.

Harish Rao criticized Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka for presenting irrelevant documents during a recent press briefing instead of addressing corruption concerns.

He challenged why tenders finalized in January at 7% below the estimated cost, without site visit conditions, were later reissued in May with new stipulations and awarded at rates exceeding the estimates.

Harish Rao referenced Bhatti Vikramarka’s suggestion for him to submit a letter to facilitate discussions with the Chief Minister.

“When it is clear that the Chief Minister is the mastermind behind this scam and his brother-in-law is the primary beneficiary, what value do such discussions hold?” he questioned.

The BRS leader emphasized that Singareni is owned by the citizens of Telangana, not by any individual, minister, or cluster of contractors.

He noted that three crucial questions remain unresolved: who is accountable for the scam, what is the extent of the financial loss, and who stands to gain from it.

The former minister highlighted that tender conditions were modified without conducting essential meetings with contractors or documenting minutes.

He alleged that rather than safeguarding Singareni’s interests, efforts are underway to protect the Chief Minister and his relatives from scrutiny.

Harish Rao asserted that claims suggesting the site visit certificate system had existed previously are misleading.

He mentioned that in January 2025, Bhupalpally projects were awarded through reverse auction at 7% below the estimated cost without site visit conditions.

“However, within three months, in May 2025, the same government imposed conditions for VK OC tender. Competition dwindled, resulting in the project being awarded at inflated rates to a company linked to the Chief Minister’s relatives,” he claimed.

Harish Rao remarked that Srujan Reddy’s Shodha Constructions was the first beneficiary of the site visit certificate system.

He alleged that post-May 2025, all OB tenders were overseen by one individual acting as a “ringmaster.”

Harish Rao demanded the cancellation of all tenders finalized via the site visit certificate system, not merely the Naini block tender.

He also accused the Congress government of hiding nearly Rs 6,900 crore in profits from Singareni and diminishing workers’ bonuses.

“That money is being diverted for the Chief Minister’s promotional and political expenditures,” he charged.

The BRS leader claimed that the silence of the Centre, given that the state holds a 51% and the Union government possesses a 49% stake in Singareni, raises significant concerns.

He accused both the Congress and the BJP of attempting to undermine Singareni and push it toward privatization.

Point of View

The allegations against the Telangana government and the BRS's call for transparency reflect a growing concern over political integrity and accountability in public sector dealings. The involvement of influential figures raises questions that demand thorough investigation to uphold public trust.
