Beijing (China), July 12 (NationPress) The Chinese diving team conducted internal trials on Saturday in preparation for the forthcoming World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, showcasing major lineup transformations.
New partnerships are set to compete in crucial events, including the women's 10m platform and women's 3m springboard. Chen Yuxi, a previous champion with multiple Olympic and world titles in women's synchronized 10m platform alongside Quan Hongchan, will now team up with Zhang Minjie.
"I believe her individual dives are quite consistent with excellent height off the board. She can effectively guide me," Zhang remarked. Chen Yuxi added, "For the synchro event, each partner has her own unique style. Our main focus will be on synchronizing our performances. We must continually refine our teamwork."
Reflecting on her mindset after the 2024 Olympics, Chen shared: "The transition is significant. After three years of rigorous competition in the last cycle, I'm essentially starting anew to gradually regain my competitive edge. I feel more mentally stable and mature now."
In the women's 3m springboard event, Olympic champion Chen Yiwen will pair with newcomer Chen Jia, who has secured two World Cup singles titles this season. "I am excited about participating in my first Worlds," remarked Chen Jia. Chen Yiwen aims to "reestablish her sense of purpose" at this competition. Both divers will also compete in the singles category, according to reports from Xinhua.
Veteran Cao Yuan, an Olympic gold medalist across three diving disciplines, is returning to the men's 3m springboard singles. "This transition required significant effort. I am striving for breakthroughs and hope to execute the finer details effectively," Cao stated.
Wang Zongyuan is partnering with Zheng Jiuyuan in the men's synchronized 3m springboard. Wang, who will also compete in the singles, mentioned: "As a major post-Olympic event, this championship will help us pinpoint areas for improvement. I will concentrate on my technique and adapt during competition."
The men's synchronized 10m platform will feature the rookie duo of Cheng Zilong and Zhu Zifeng. "We will motivate each other to adjust mentally," Zhu noted. Cheng added: "As new partners this cycle, we aim to follow in our predecessors' footsteps for national glory. This requires consistent, gradual training progress. We will keep learning from them."
