Beijing, April 8 (NationPress) On Wednesday, China unveiled its lineup for the upcoming ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals in London, featuring the world's top players, Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha.
The Chinese squad consists of ten talented athletes: Wang Chuqin, Lin Shidong, Zhou Qihao, Xiang Peng, and Liang Jingkun for the men's team, alongside Sun Yingsha, Wang Manyu, Chen Xingtong, Kuai Man, and Wang Yidi in the women's division.
For the men's team, Wang and Lin qualified based on their past performances or world rankings. Zhou and Xiang earned their spots through a team trial, while the coaching staff awarded the final position to the experienced Liang, as reported by Xinhua.
Head coach Wang Hao emphasized that this selection was made after thorough discussions within the coaching team and consultations with players and experts.
"Liang's experience, consistency, and past performances in critical matches at the World Championships and Asian Championships are notable. Although he faced challenges post-Asian Championships due to an injury, he has shown signs of recovery during rehabilitation," stated Wang.
Reflecting on the competition ahead, Wang remarked, "The rivalry is fierce on the men's side, and we've observed significant advancements from players on other teams. We must not take the championship for granted and should strive to give our best effort."
In the women's category, Sun and Wang Manyu secured their spots directly, while Chen, Kuai, and Wang Yidi qualified through the team trial.
According to women's team head coach Ma Lin, "These five athletes represent the pinnacle of our team's capabilities."
Chief coach Qin Zhijian added, "This marks our first team event since the new coaching staff was appointed. We hope all athletes will prepare thoroughly and perform excellently to achieve commendable results."
China boasts an impressive record of winning 11 consecutive men's team titles and six straight women's team titles in this tournament.
The World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals in London are scheduled from April 28 to May 10.
