Bengaluru, April 10 (NationPress) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has wrapped up its investigation into the high-profile suicide case of C.J. Roy, the founder and chairman of the Confident Group. This tragic event occurred during an Income Tax (IT) raid at his office in Bengaluru. Officials revealed on Friday that Roy's death was a result of suicide linked to prolonged depression.

The investigation was initiated by the government in response to claims that the pressure from Income Tax officials contributed to Roy’s demise.

However, findings indicate that Roy had been battling depression for an extended period and was on medication, which he had ceased to take prior to the incident.

Reports suggest that Roy stopped his prescribed medication roughly a month before his passing, a factor that officials believe could have significantly influenced his decision to take his life. Nonetheless, the precise cause of his depression remains unclear. The investigation also confirmed that no external pressure was found to be associated with his death.

With the inquiry now finalized, officials have announced that the SIT is preparing to present a chargesheet to the court.

C.J. Roy reportedly took his own life in his office on January 30 while an Income Tax raid was ongoing. According to police, he was alone in his first-floor office when the incident occurred. Following a gunshot, Income Tax officials rushed in and transported him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators noted that the incident took place after Roy had been interrogated for about an hour and was requested to provide additional documentation. After submitting one set of records, he allegedly returned to his chamber and shot himself in the chest.

Police sources indicated that Roy had been experiencing considerable financial strain for several months. His business activities had come under scrutiny from federal investigative agencies, particularly concerning the sources of funding for large-scale projects. Authorities believe that the combination of pressure from investors and questioning by tax officials may have caused significant mental stress.

The SIT took into account all relevant factors, including procedural elements of the Income Tax raid, financial documents, and testimonies from relatives, officials, and associates before reaching its conclusions. The situation became even more complex against the backdrop of the Keralam elections.

Karnataka's Home Minister, G. Parameshwara, stated that the SIT’s investigation would thoroughly examine all circumstances surrounding the case, including claims from Roy’s family that tax authority pressure led to his drastic action. "All aspects will be determined once the investigation is concluded. Until then, it's premature to attribute the suicide to any specific cause," Parameshwara remarked.

He noted that police would gather statements from family members and others involved in the case to evaluate all emerging elements before drawing any conclusions.
