What Are the Latest Developments in the C.J. Roy Suicide Case?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Feb 10 (NationPress) Karnataka's Home Minister G. Parameshwara announced on Tuesday that the inquiry into the suicide of industrialist C.J. Roy is advancing. He noted, “Information is currently being sourced from Dubai, while the assessment of Income Tax (IT) officials is at the discretion of the Special Investigation Team (SIT).”
It is important to mention that C.J. Roy, the founder and chairman of the Confident Group, reportedly took his own life at his Bengaluru office during an Income Tax raid. Upon investigation, officials discovered that he was alone in his office chamber on the first floor at the time of the incident. Following the sound of a gunshot, IT officers quickly entered the office and transported him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
While addressing the media in Bengaluru, Minister Parameshwara remarked on the SIT's investigation into the case, stating, “In the case of industrialist C.J. Roy, officials are conducting their probe. He had been in Dubai, and various details must be collected from there. The Income Tax matters are also under review. All facets will be examined, and a report will be submitted later.”
He further added, “The SIT has reported that no suicide note was discovered. They have confiscated his diary and additional materials. Information will not be disclosed in fragments. The questioning of IT officials remains with the SIT. The investigation is being pursued based on findings, and we cannot comment on the incident's circumstances at this time.”
In response to speculations about names of politicians appearing in Roy’s diary, Parameshwara stated that nothing could be confirmed until the report is completed. “Regardless of how the question is framed, my response will stay consistent,” he asserted.
Regarding the rehabilitation of surrendered Maoists, Parameshwara mentioned, “We have already made a decision to appoint public prosecutors in Shivamogga, Udupi, and Chikkamagaluru districts to expedite their cases. This was one of the stipulations made to the government at the time of their surrender.”
“We discussed this matter yesterday, and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has issued directives accordingly. We will appoint three Public Prosecutors to represent these cases in court and ensure their resolution,” he continued.
When questioned about Congress and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s trip to Delhi, Parameshwara responded sharply, stating, “The media should focus on topics beyond leadership issues. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar serves as the Pradesh Congress Committee president and is required to participate in meetings. What is wrong with him traveling to Delhi?”
“Is a trip to Delhi such a significant issue?” he inquired. “I am not in a position to make statements reserved for the party high command. Please refrain from involving the Chief Minister in this discussion.”
