Congress MP Submits Motion in Lok Sabha Regarding Allahabad HC Judge's Remarks

New Delhi, Dec 11 (NationPress) On Wednesday, the Congress party submitted a notice to request the adjournment of Lok Sabha business to deliberate on the recent remarks made by a sitting judge of the Allahabad High Court.
K. Suresh, a Congress MP and the party's Chief Whip in the Lower House, stated, "I hereby give notice of my intention to ask for leave to move a motion for the adjournment of the business of the house for the purpose of discussing a definite matter of urgent importance, namely:- The recent statements made by a sitting judge of the Allahabad High Court..."
He mentioned in the notice that the judge's remarks exhibited derogatory and divisive views towards minority communities, leading to significant concern and outrage nationwide.
According to Suresh, "Such comments from a member of the judiciary compromise the constitutional principles of secularism, equality, and justice that are foundational to our democracy."
Suresh emphasized that the judiciary is tasked with safeguarding the Constitution and is expected to maintain impartiality, fairness, and the rights of all citizens, regardless of their religion or community.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court acknowledged the controversial speech delivered by Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav, who is currently serving on the Allahabad High Court. A statement from the apex court revealed, "The Supreme Court has taken note of the newspaper reports regarding a speech made by Mr. Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav, a sitting judge of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad. Details have been requested from the High Court, and the matter is currently under review."
During a recent provincial gathering of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's law cell (Kashi Province) on Sunday, Justice Yadav reportedly stated that the "country would operate according to the preferences of the bahusankhyak (majority) residing in Hindustan."
He commented, "I have no hesitation in asserting that this is Hindustan, and this country will operate in accordance with the wishes of the majority living here. This is the law. It is not about speaking as a High Court Judge; rather, the law functions in line with the bahusankhyak (majority). Consider this within the framework of a family or society - only what guarantees the welfare and happiness of the majority will be acknowledged," as reported by the media.
