Counting Process for the Tirhut Graduate MLC Bypoll in Progress

Patna, Dec 9 (NationPress) The bye-election for the Tirhut Graduate Constituency of the Bihar Legislative Council is currently a focal point of interest owing to the highly competitive political scenario and its significance for local politics.

As counting takes place at MIT College in Muzaffarpur, results are anticipated to be released by evening, providing insights into this triangular contest.

The MLC bypoll for the Tirhut Graduate Constituency was conducted on December 5, with a voter turnout recorded at 47.50 percent.

Voting occurred at 89 polling centres and 106 sub-polling centres.

Eligible voters included 1,54,828 graduate voters from Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Sitamarhi, and Sheohar districts, comprising 107,401 male and 47,419 female voters, who will determine the outcome for 18 candidates.

This seat became vacant following the election of Devesh Chandra Thakur to the Lok Sabha from Sitamarhi, leading to this bye-election.

The bye-election features a triangular contest among candidates from JD(U) Abhishek Kumar Jha, RJD candidate Gopi Kishan, and Jan Suraaj Party candidate Dr. Vinayak Gautam.

Rakesh Raushan, a rebel candidate from the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), also ran as an Independent.

Abhishek Jha, representing the JD(U), is backed by the Brahmin community and his party, which has held this seat for 22 years.

The RJD fielded Gopi Kishan, who represents the Vaishya community.

Dr. Vinayak Gautam of the Jan Suraaj Party represents the Bhumihar community and comes from a politically influential family.

His father, Ramkumar Singh, and grandfather, Raghunath Pandey, have previously held key political roles, which adds to his candidacy's significance.

This election is under close observation as it acts as an indicator for the influence of major political alliances and emerging parties in the region in the lead-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The counting procedure comprises 20 tables, facilitating a smooth and transparent result declaration.
