Chandigarh, Feb 15 (NationPress) In the midst of a political protest led by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, two cousin brothers from Patiala district have been taken into custody in connection with a murder investigation. These individuals were among the 116 people deported from the US aboard a C-17 aircraft that arrived in the second batch at Amritsar airport, according to police reports on Sunday.
As per police sources, Sandeep Singh and Pradeep Singh were wanted suspects in a murder case that emerged in 2023. They were apprehended at Amritsar airport upon their return late Saturday night.
The case against Sandeep, along with four others, was filed in Rajpura town in June 2023, and during the ongoing investigation, Pradeep's name was added as an accomplice.
This development has put an abrupt halt to the aspirations of Sandeep and Pradeep for a future in the US.
“Since January 28, we had been in contact with them. We only learned on Saturday morning about their deportation, which left us in shock,” mentioned Sukhjeet Kaur.
The family now faces a significant financial burden, having invested Rs 90 lakh to facilitate the illegal journey of Harjeet and Harjot to the US.
“We paid this amount to Daler Singh, a travel agent from Gurdaspur. We haven’t managed to reach him yet. Harjeet sold two acres of his land, while Harjot sold one acre and his car, in addition to borrowing money from a private lender,” Sukhjeet Kaur added.
The cousins are counted among the 119 illegal immigrants who were repatriated at Amritsar airport on Saturday via a military aircraft after being expelled from the US.
Previously, another US aircraft carrying 104 Indians had landed at Amritsar airport on February 5.
