Cyberabad Police Initiates P.R.O.T.E.C.T. Program to Combat Cybercrime in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Dec 17 (NationPress) The Cyberabad Police, in partnership with the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC), introduced an informative initiative known as P.R.O.T.E.C.T. (Preventing Risks Online Through Education, Collaboration, and Training) on Tuesday.
As stated by Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty, the P.R.O.T.E.C.T. project benefits from the backing of mainstream media, social media influencers, students, and law enforcement. Their joint efforts in raising awareness regarding cybercrimes will play a vital role in educating the community and preventing such offenses.
He pointed out that cybercrime has emerged as one of the most rapidly escalating issues, with incidents increasing at a concerning pace each year.
“One of the most alarming trends is digital arrest—where individuals, motivated by fear, end up revealing their bank details and personal information to fraudsters. I urge everyone to refrain from doing this. Always remember the essential number to fight cybercrimes: 1930. This helpline can protect you from substantial loss and distress,” he emphasized.
The Commissioner encouraged the media, social media influencers, students, and police to collaborate and promote awareness about 1930.
DCP Cyber Crimes Sreebala noted that in numerous cases of cybercrime, victims not only suffer financial losses but may even face life-threatening situations. "We require education, collaboration, and ongoing training to effectively tackle these crimes," she stated.
"This initiative seeks to empower individuals with essential knowledge regarding the latest cyber threats and prepare them to defend against these evolving dangers. The Cybercrime Mega Awareness Drive is set for December 18, 2024, across the Cyberabad Commissionerate," she added.
Officers and volunteers will actively connect with citizens through interactive sessions, street plays (Nukkad Natak), and various awareness events at high-traffic areas including colleges, corporate offices, malls, banks, parks, metro stations, and public gathering spots. The theme of P.R.O.T.E.C.T. is "Let’s unite to create a secure digital future." Together, we can “Make A Difference On The Go!”
SCSC General Secretary Ramesh Kaza remarked that numerous individuals have fallen prey to cybercrimes, affecting everyone from ordinary citizens to high-profile figures. He stressed that ignorance plays a significant role in the daily rise of cybercrimes. He highlighted the necessity of the "Each One, Teach One" approach, asserting that through collective awareness and cooperation, cybercrimes can be effectively mitigated.
SCSC CEO Naved Khan elaborated that the project will operate via two teams: one will consist of 50 to 60 SCSC volunteers, while the other will comprise 50 to 60 police officers. Each team will pair one police officer with one traffic volunteer. These groups will visit banks, hotels, parks, schools, colleges, and other public venues to engage with the public and disseminate information about cybercrime prevention.
