Bengaluru, Nov 21 (NationPress) In a significant development regarding the Rs 7.11 crore daylight robbery that took place in Bengaluru, authorities have apprehended two individuals, one of whom is a constable from the Govindarajanagar police station, officials confirmed on Friday.

Special investigation teams, formed to delve into the incident, made the arrests after identifying their involvement, sources revealed.

The constable, who had been on night duty on Thursday, November 20, was taken into custody while heading home in the morning hours. The second individual, a native of Kerala and a former employee of CMS Info System Limited, had recently resigned from his position. It is noteworthy that this was the same company that operated the ATM refill vehicle that was robbed.

As per sources, the constable and the former employee had formed a friendship over the past six months and had meticulously plotted the heist over an extended period. Initial investigations suggested insider involvement, as information about the robbery was communicated to the police control room a mere 45 minutes following the occurrence.

Connections between the constable and the ex-employee emerged when investigators scrutinized active mobile numbers around the robbery location. Analysis of call detail records (CDR) indicated frequent communications between the two during the heist, with evidence showing they had been in touch regularly in the days leading up to the incident.

Despite police sealing the borders and conducting vehicle inspections, the perpetrators managed to evade capture. Authorities now suspect that the gang may be hiding in either Tamil Nadu or Andhra Pradesh. The vehicle used in the crime was discovered near Tirupati in Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh.

An official statement from the police regarding this matter is still pending.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has stated that the police have gathered leads on the robbers and are confident of their impending capture. Home Minister G. Parameshwara echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the commitment of eight specialized teams and approximately 200 police officers engaged in the case.

Investigators have also uncovered that some individuals involved in the crime are from the Kalyan Nagar area of Bengaluru.

It’s important to recall that this robbery unfolded in broad daylight on Wednesday, when a group stole Rs 7.11 crore from a vehicle designated for ATM cash refilling.

The Karnataka BJP has criticized the state government in light of the daylight heist, raising alarms about the deteriorating law and order situation and asserting that citizens cannot anticipate safety under the current administration.

Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka remarked on Wednesday: “Following previous bank robberies, now cash intended for ATMs has been stolen — a brazen daylight heist on a busy thoroughfare. The broad-daylight theft of an ATM cash vehicle in Bengaluru this afternoon is clear evidence that law and order in the state has utterly collapsed.”
