Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Contacts Home Minister Amit Shah Regarding Rohingya Issue; BJP Labels It a Deception

New Delhi, Dec 15 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Delhi, Atishi, sent a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday, accusing the Central government of facilitating the settlement of Rohingyas in the capital, leading to a strong backlash from the BJP, which criticized the CM for promoting falsehoods.

In her correspondence, she asserted that the Centre was prioritizing the rights of Rohingyas over those of other citizens.

"The BJP-led Central government has secretly settled a significant number of illegal migrant Rohingya refugees across different locations in Delhi, without informing the public or the local administration," Atishi stated in the letter she shared on X.

She referenced a previous tweet from 2022 by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. In response, the BJP argued that Puri’s tweet referred to the settlement of legal refugees, not illegal migrants.

BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj countered, asserting that Atishi's letter to HM Shah exemplifies her lack of administrative and political maturity.

"The citizens of Delhi deserve transparency and responsibility, rather than a distraction through unfounded allegations and blame-shifting. It is regrettable that the Chief Minister is misleading the public regarding such a sensitive matter to mask her government's shortcomings," she remarked.

The MP clarified that no illegal Rohingya migrants in Delhi have received an EWS (Economically Weaker Section) housing allocation, as confirmed by the Ministry of Home Affairs in a statement dated August 17, 2022.

“If Atishi, as Chief Minister, is unaware of these facts, it raises serious concerns. If she is informed, I urge her to cease the spread of misinformation and division,” Swaraj added.

The reality is that the AAP government has been facilitating the Rohingyas' settlement by providing them with water, electricity, and monthly financial support of Rs 10,000.

Swaraj further noted that the citizens of Delhi are astute and are closely observing the situation. They comprehend the genuine motivation behind these actions, which seem designed to divert focus from real issues such as corruption, deteriorating infrastructure, and daily struggles.

She emphasized that for the betterment and unity of Delhi, all forms of assistance to Rohingyas should be halted immediately, allowing the government to concentrate on addressing the actual challenges faced by the residents of Delhi.

“Delhi requires leadership that prioritizes the welfare of its citizens above political maneuvers,” she concluded.
