Will Delhi's Poor Receive Annual Financial Aid for Two LPG Cylinders on Holi and Diwali?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 3 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presided over a Cabinet meeting that sanctioned a new initiative aimed at providing all families holding ration cards in Delhi with financial support equivalent to the cost of two LPG cylinders each year during Holi and Diwali.
The CM emphasized that this people-oriented initiative seeks to alleviate inflationary pressures on economically disadvantaged families.
She described the initiative as an integral part of the Delhi government’s approach to delivering welfare that is focused, transparent, and accountable.
This program is not just about financial help; it aims to ensure dignity and ease for families during festive occasions.
Funds for the cylinders will be disbursed via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) into the Aadhaar-linked bank account of the family’s head.
Every ration card-holding family in Delhi is eligible for this universal program, which applies equally to those using either LPG or PNG for cooking.
Assistance will be provided twice a year, during Holi and Diwali, regardless of whether a cylinder refill occurs in those months, the CM clarified.
Currently, the price for an LPG cylinder in Delhi stands at Rs 853. Beneficiaries enrolled in the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) will receive Rs 553 per cylinder after accounting for the Rs 300 subsidy from the Government of India, while non-Ujjwala ration card holders will be allotted Rs 853 per cylinder, according to an official statement.
The anticipated annual cost for this initiative is projected to be around Rs 242.77 crore, with allowances for fluctuations in LPG prices, government subsidies, and the beneficiary count.
The Delhi Government has committed to a transparent budget for this initiative.
In her remarks, the CM also extended her gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that through the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, the central government has provided clean fuel, enhanced health, and dignity to millions of women nationwide.
