New Delhi, Oct 21 (NationPress) The capital city has seen a remarkable rise in firecracker sales this Diwali, with numerous shopkeepers depleting their stock well in advance of the festivities. Consequently, many residents of Delhi found themselves traveling to nearby cities such as Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Sonipat in search of firecrackers.
According to Brijesh Goyal, Chairman of the Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI), this year's demand for firecrackers has escalated significantly. Even a day prior to Diwali, most vendors reported stock shortages. He mentioned that to secure firecrackers, numerous individuals had no choice but to venture outside Delhi, estimating the city's total sales to be around Rs 500 crore.
Paramjit Singh Pamma, President of the Sadar Bazaar Association, noted that traders have observed nearly a 40% increase in overall sales compared to the previous year. “The demand for firecrackers, decorative items, and lighting products has surged notably this festive season,” he remarked.
Sales have also surged following the Supreme Court's ruling on October 15, which permitted the sale and use of green crackers in Delhi-NCR during specific hours on Diwali and the eve of the festival. From October 18 to 21, the sale of green crackers was authorized by the authorities.
Furthermore, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) reported record sales nationwide during the festive period. Traders across India recorded transactions worth Rs 5.40 lakh crore between Navratri and Diwali, with consumers spending an additional Rs 65,000 crore on services. This marks a 25% increase from last year's festive sales of Rs 4.25 lakh crore.
The impressive sales figures indicate a robust consumer sentiment and a revival in festive spending across the nation.
