New Delhi, Dec 15 (NationPress) Flight operations at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport faced significant disruption on Monday morning due to dense fog that severely impacted visibility. This incident marks the first substantial occurrence of winter fog for the season in the national capital. Numerous departures were delayed as airlines made necessary adjustments to their schedules to maintain safety during these challenging weather conditions.

Delhi International Airport Limited issued a passenger advisory, warning that the dense fog might lead to further disruptions in flight operations. The airport authority stated that it is collaborating closely with all relevant stakeholders to minimize inconvenience and recommended that passengers stay updated with their respective airlines for the latest information regarding flight statuses.

“Due to thick fog, flight operations may encounter disruptions. We are working in close coordination with all involved parties to reduce inconvenience for passengers. For the most current flight information, travelers are encouraged to reach out to their respective airlines. We sincerely apologize for any disruptions caused,” the airport announcement read.

IndiGo also provided a travel advisory indicating that reduced visibility around the airport was affecting flight operations and that some departures could be delayed longer than usual. The airline reassured passengers that its ground staff and operations teams are fully engaged to assist travelers and effectively manage schedules during this disruption.

On the social media platform X, IndiGo stated, “Low visibility and fog over Delhi will impact flight schedules. We are monitoring the weather closely and striving to ensure you reach your destination safely and smoothly. We encourage you to check your flight status through our website or app. Rest assured, our teams are here to support you at every step.”

“We hope for clearer skies soon to enhance our service, and we appreciate your patience and understanding during this challenging period,” IndiGo added.

Air India also released a travel advisory noting that “Poor visibility due to dense fog is affecting flight operations in Delhi and parts of Northern India. Please verify your flight status at: http://airindia.com/in/en/manage/flight-status.html before heading to the airport.”

This advisory comes at a time when IndiGo flights have been experiencing multiple operational issues in recent weeks, including weather-related delays and congestion at major air traffic hubs. The airline has continually urged passengers to confirm their flight status prior to arriving at the airport to avoid inconvenience.

Delhi woke up once again enveloped in a thick layer of smog, with air quality remaining in the 'severe' category across the National Capital Region (NCR), raising serious health concerns for the local population.

Meanwhile, visibility sharply declined in various areas of the region.

The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 457 as of 6 a.m., according to the Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi.

Visuals from across the national capital displayed a dense haze suspended in the air, making visibility extremely limited and interfering with early morning movement.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a warning for dense fog during the morning and forenoon hours, with such conditions reported from the Safdarjung observatory.

The maximum temperature in the national capital was noted at 23 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 8 degrees Celsius.

Pollution levels remain concerning across various monitoring stations in Delhi. In the Akshardham area, the AQI was recorded at 493, categorizing it under the 'severe' level as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Similar conditions were reported in Dwarka Sector-14, where the AQI stood at 469.
