New Delhi, Dec 5 (NationPress) On Friday, Delhi Airport released a new advisory for passengers, indicating that all IndiGo domestic flights leaving from the airport have been cancelled until midnight.
Delhi Airport announced on social media platform 'X', stating, "IndiGo domestic flights departing from Delhi Airport on 5th December 2025 are cancelled until midnight today (23:59 hours). Operations for all other airlines remain unaffected."
Furthermore, it noted, "Our dedicated ground teams are working tirelessly with all partners to alleviate the disruption and ensure a pleasant passenger experience. For the most up-to-date flight status, please visit our official website www.newdelhiairport.in."
Earlier today, Delhi Airport issued a passenger advisory encouraging travelers to confirm their flight status with airlines prior to arriving at the airport. This announcement comes as IndiGo experiences one of its most significant operational challenges in recent years, leading to widespread cancellations and delays.
On Thursday, over 500 flights were cancelled, with numerous others experiencing delays. In November alone, IndiGo reported 1,232 cancellations across its network.
An earlier advisory posted on social media platform X stated, "Please be informed that operational challenges affecting certain domestic services are causing flight delays and cancellations."
"We strongly advise passengers to check their flight status directly with their airline before heading to the airport. Our dedicated on-ground teams are working diligently with all partners to mitigate the disruption and ensure a comfortable passenger experience. We appreciate your patience and cooperation," stated Delhi Airport.
Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu and high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) convened an emergency review meeting with IndiGo's top management to evaluate the ongoing situation. The Ministry has expressed its commitment to closely monitor disruptions and has initiated heightened oversight. The Minister also instructed the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to ensure full support for affected travelers. Additionally, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been directed to monitor airfares amidst rising concerns of fare increases due to decreased capacity.
On Thursday, the DGCA held a comprehensive meeting with IndiGo’s leadership to seek clarification regarding the notable increase in cancellations. IndiGo attributed these issues to operational challenges associated with the implementation of Phase II of the revised Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) norms, crew scheduling difficulties, and seasonal winter conditions.
The revised FDTL Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR), enforced on July 1 and November 1 following court directives, aim to enhance safety and reduce pilot fatigue. During the meeting, IndiGo acknowledged underestimating crew requirements under the new system, resulting in planning gaps and workforce shortages.
The airline indicated that disruptions could persist for the next two to three days while stabilization efforts are underway. Starting December 8, IndiGo will temporarily reduce flight frequency to minimize inconvenience. The carrier has also requested a temporary relaxation of specific FDTL regulations for A320 aircraft until February 10, 2026, promising the DGCA that normal operations will be fully restored by then.
