Bengaluru, Aug 1 (NationPress) In a strong rebuttal to US President Donald Trump's assertion of a 'dead economy' in India, former Prime Minister and JD-S Rajya Sabha member H.D. Deve Gowda stated that even a small trader and a humble farmer in India, who operates their business with immense dignity, integrity, and humanity, can impart valuable lessons to Mr. Trump.
In his statement on Friday, the ex-Prime Minister expressed: "Like many others, I too was taken aback by Mr. Trump's unfounded and rash comments about India and its economy. It's rare in modern history to see a head of state behaving so erratically, uncivilly, and irresponsibly."
"Mr. Trump has not only treated India poorly but has also shown disregard for every other nation globally, including his long-term allies. There seems to be a deep-rooted issue with him that reason, diplomacy, or statecraft cannot pinpoint or remedy. It would not be appropriate to elaborate further on his ill-mannered behavior as it would lower our standards. A small trader and poor farmer in India, who runs their business with great dignity, integrity, and humanity, can teach Mr. Trump many lessons," Deve Gowda emphasized.
"India, as a sovereign nation, is diverse and democratic. Since gaining independence, it has always prioritized its national interests. We possess the God-given strength and capability to navigate through challenges and emerge even stronger," he remarked.
"I am proud that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, India has steadfastly defended our national interests. We have not yielded to Mr. Trump's intimidation and have demonstrated that we will not be swayed by threats. The Modi government has gone to great lengths to safeguard the Indian agricultural sector and small to medium enterprises, which support over half the population. This resolute stance will lead to an unparalleled resurgence in our nation," Deve Gowda added.
He further observed that India is currently the fastest-growing economy. Mr. Trump must either be oblivious or misinformed to label our economy as 'dead'.
"I urge some Opposition leaders who have celebrated Mr. Trump's statements and acted as his misguided spokespeople in India to reconsider their stance. While I understand their frustration, they should not jeopardize themselves or their parties and risk being consigned to the dustbin of history alongside Mr. Trump," Deve Gowda concluded.
