Chennai, July 5 (NationPress) Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) founder T.T.V. Dhinakaran predicted on Saturday that Tamil Nadu is likely to see a coalition government following the 2026 Assembly elections, which contradicts assertions made by the AIADMK.
While addressing the media in Bhavani, Dhinakaran remarked, "We are aligned with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). If the NDA secures power, it will inevitably lead to a coalition cabinet."
This statement came in response to AIADMK general secretary and Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami, who recently claimed that a coalition government in the state was not feasible.
Dhinakaran emphasized that the current political and administrative landscape in Tamil Nadu necessitates coalition governance.
"The existing situation in the state — characterized by significant unrest among government employees, farmers, and various groups — calls for a united approach to governance," he stated.
He criticized the DMK government, accusing Chief Minister M.K. Stalin of fabricating a false narrative of peace and stability.
"The police force has transformed into a mechanism of oppression. The recent custodial death of B. Ajith Kumar in Sivaganga has severely damaged public trust in law enforcement," he expressed.
Dhinakaran added, "The very institution meant to safeguard citizens has now become a source of intimidation. The Chief Minister’s nonchalant apology is utterly unacceptable."
He also took aim at Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan, criticizing him for not pursuing the apprehension of those allegedly involved in the custodial death, despite serious allegations of political interference in the ongoing investigation.
Furthermore, he alleged that governance in the state is monopolized by a single family, leading to administrative stagnation and neglect of public issues.
"The DMK has failed to deliver on its campaign promises and is now relying on its allies to maintain power," he stated.
Referencing an earlier comment by CPI-M state secretary P. Shanmugam regarding the ruling alliance's need to fulfill past commitments before heading into elections, Dhinakaran questioned how the alliance could claim those promises had been fulfilled.
"The DMK is attempting to leverage its allies while failing to meet its fundamental obligations to the populace," he concluded.
