Giridih (Jharkhand), June 26 (NationPress) A tragic double murder unfolded in Lukaiya village within the Mufassil police station jurisdiction of Jharkhand's Giridih district late Wednesday night, evoking outrage and disbelief among residents, as reported by local police officials on Thursday.
Authorities revealed that a man fatally stabbed his wife at her parents' residence and was subsequently lynched by her family members and furious villagers while attempting to escape.
The victim, identified as Meena Hansda, had been married to Chhotelal Hansda for eight years. However, their relationship had deteriorated over time, leading Meena to return to her parental village.
Police indicated that there had been attempts to mediate between the couple. Recently, Chhotelal visited his in-laws' home in Lukaiya village. On the night of the incident, a fierce argument erupted, during which Chhotelal, in a fit of rage, drew a knife and stabbed Meena multiple times, resulting in her immediate death.
Upon attempting to flee the scene, news of the incident spread rapidly. Villagers and Meena's relatives apprehended him and brutally assaulted him. He suffered severe injuries and succumbed to them on the spot.
Law enforcement, led by Sadar SDPO Jeetwahan Oraon and Mufassil police station in-charge Shyam Kishore Mahato, arrived shortly after receiving the report.
“Chhotelal Hansda, who was fleeing after murdering his wife, was caught and killed by villagers. We are filing two separate FIRs regarding this case — one for the murder of Meena Hansda and another for the lynching of Chhotelal Hansda,” stated SDPO Oraon.
He noted that legal action is being initiated against those involved in Chhotelal's assault and death.
The remains of both individuals have been sent for autopsy. This incident has sparked significant grief and outrage within the village.
