Garhwa (Jharkhand), June 17 (NationPress) In a shocking turn of events reminiscent of the recent honeymoon murder involving Sonam Raghuvanshi and her husband Raja Raghuvanshi, another tragic case of marital homicide has surfaced in Jharkhand’s Garhwa district. A 22-year-old woman has been accused of poisoning her husband just 36 days post-marriage, as reported by police officials on Tuesday.
The suspect, named Sunita, was taken into custody on Monday evening and is now facing judicial proceedings.
The unsettling incident was brought to light by the victim’s mother, Rajmati Devi, who lodged a complaint alleging that her daughter-in-law had committed murder.
According to the FIR, the deceased, Budhnath Singh, who lived in Bahokundar village under the jurisdiction of Ranka police station, had married Sunita, the daughter of Raghunath Singh from Vishunpur village in Chhattisgarh’s Ramchandrapur police station area, on May 11 of this year.
The couple faced difficulties almost immediately after their wedding. Sunita returned to her parental home expressing her dissatisfaction and declared that she had no intention of living with Budhnath.
Despite family efforts to reconcile the couple, a panchayat was convened on June 5, prompting Sunita to return to her marital home alongside Budhnath.
On June 14, the couple made a trip to Ramanujganj market in Chhattisgarh, where Sunita allegedly persuaded Budhnath to purchase pesticide under the guise of needing it for farming.
It is claimed that on the night of June 15, Sunita added the pesticide to her husband’s food. Budhnath was discovered lifeless the following morning after he did not awaken.
His remains were sent for a post-mortem examination, and the official cause of death will be determined once the report is available.
Confirming the arrest, the Ranka police station chief stated, “We have detained the deceased’s wife based on the mother’s allegations. A post-mortem is underway, and we will ascertain the cause of death once the report is complete. Further investigations are ongoing.”
