Islamabad, Nov 27 (NationPress) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has ceased the issuance of visas to Pakistani nationals, as reported by an official from the Interior Ministry in Islamabad on Thursday.
During a session of the Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights, Additional Interior Secretary Salman Chaudhry revealed this significant update. He remarked, "If a ban is imposed, getting it lifted would be challenging," according to the prominent Pakistani newspaper Dawn.
The official indicated that the UAE is currently granting visas only to individuals possessing blue and diplomatic passports.
Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri, who chairs the Senate committee on human rights, confirmed the Interior Ministry's statement. She noted that this restriction arises from concerns that some Pakistani travelers are allegedly engaging in criminal activities upon their arrival in the UAE.
Senator Zehri mentioned that the committee was informed that the UAE has not issued any visas to Pakistani nationals, with only a few granted recently under difficult circumstances.
Pakistani citizens have been encountering visa rejections in various Gulf countries, leading the government to discuss the matter with relevant officials during important meetings.
In December 2024, the UAE, alongside Saudi Arabia and several other Gulf nations, instituted an indefinite ban on visa issuance to individuals from at least 30 different cities in Pakistan, following a concerning rise in incidents involving Pakistani nationals related to begging, smuggling, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and other criminal offenses abroad.
Gulf nations and cities, particularly Dubai and Abu Dhabi, remain highly sought-after destinations for millions of Pakistani travelers and job seekers.
Previously, the UAE mandated that visa applicants from Pakistan provide a police character certificate.
A well-known Pakistani YouTuber acknowledged the challenges faced by travelers from Pakistan after Gulf countries halted visa issuance to Pakistani nationals. "Saudi Arabia and Dubai were once favored destinations, but have now ceased granting visas. I too encountered significant challenges during my attempt to attend the IIFA Awards. In fact, Saudi Arabia has issued warnings to Pakistan concerning the increasing number of beggars being apprehended," stated podcaster Nadir Ali in an interview with a prominent travel company owner in Karachi last year.
