Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, July 13 (NationPress) - A drone strike targeted the Miryan Police Station in Pakistan's troubled Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday, marking the fifth attack on the same facility in just one month, as confirmed by police officials on Sunday.
The police reported that ammunition was released from a high-altitude drone over the Miryan Police Station situated in the Bannu district.
Fortunately, the strike did not result in any casualties or damage to the structure, but authorities admitted they could not intercept the drone. The device operated at a height that was beyond their effective shooting range.
Police emphasized, “This is the fifth quadcopter attack on this police station within the past month,” underscoring the disturbing rise in the utilization of advanced drone technology by militants in the region.
Law enforcement has noted an uptick in the deployment of sophisticated quadcopters in recent months, which has raised significant concerns among security agencies operating in this volatile border area adjacent to Afghanistan.
In reaction to these incidents, a search operation is currently in progress, and security measures have been intensified throughout the Bannu region.
This latest event follows a different attack on the Serai Gambila Police Station in the Lakki Marwat district late Friday night.
Approximately a dozen armed militants encircled the station and initiated an assault using both light and heavy weaponry.
The Serai Gambila Police Station, located along the Peshawar-Karachi Highway near the Gambila River, has previously faced multiple attacks, as noted by officials.
Pakistan's security forces are increasingly convinced that these assaults are indicative of a broader trend reflecting the evolving strategies of militant groups, particularly the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
These recent attacks also follow a devastating bombing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Bajaur district on July 2, where a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) targeted a government convoy.
The explosion, which occurred near the Phatak Mela area along Nawagai Road, resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including two senior provincial government officials and two policemen.
Local police reported that the blast struck a double-cabin vehicle carrying Assistant Commissioner of Nawagai Faisal Sultan and another senior officer, both of whom were killed instantly along with their accompanying officers.
