Devotees, including men, women, and children, said their heartfelt goodbyes to Goddess Durga and her offspring as the state's grandest festival concluded.
In line with tradition, the idols from the Durgabari temple in Agartala spearheaded the Dashami procession on Thursday, being the first to be immersed at Dashamighat in the state capital with full state honors, accompanied by the state police band playing the national anthem.
The 149-year-old Durga Puja at Durgabari temple, originally started by the reigning kings and supported by the Tripura government for over 75 years, continues to attract devotees from various parts of India and neighboring nations, including Bangladesh.
On Saturday, the Tripura government is set to host the fourth edition of the 'Mayer Gamon carnival,' a procession featuring Durga idols from the best pujas in the capital and surrounding areas. Chief Minister Manik Saha will inaugurate the 'Mayer Gamon carnival,' which is expected to see participation from at least 40 community puja idols.
According to an official, trophies, citations, and cash prizes will be awarded to the top three puja idols. Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, also a BJP MLA, visited the event venue to oversee the preparations.
This colorful carnival will allow puja organizers to present their themes and engage in cultural programs. The state government will also organize another annual event, 'Sarad Samman,' anticipated to occur on October 11.
During the 'Sarad Samman' ceremony, 43 clubs statewide will be recognized for their successful Durga Puja organization. Chief Minister Saha, who oversees the information and cultural portfolio, stated that, as in previous years, the 'Mayer Gamon' and 'Sharad Samman' programs would be held to motivate community and club puja organizers.
He expressed his desire for the entire country to recognize Tripura's 'Mayer Gamon,' emphasizing its significance. 'Mayer Gamon' is an annual carnival celebrating the departure of Goddess Durga, marking the end of the five-day Durga Puja festival.
