He further mentioned, "Reiterated India’s full support to Sri Lanka’s recovery and rebuilding efforts post Cyclone Ditwah. We discussed the implementation of the reconstruction package and additional relief measures."
Earlier, EAM Jaishankar met with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya in Colombo, reaffirming India's commitment to Sri Lanka's rebuilding after the cyclone.
He stated on X, "Good to meet Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya of Sri Lanka today. Assured India's steadfast commitment to Sri Lanka's rebuilding post Cyclone Ditwah. The reconstruction package reflects the deep ties between our nations."
EAM Jaishankar also met with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, conveying Prime Minister Modi's well wishes and message of solidarity following the cyclone.
He announced a substantial reconstruction package of USD 450 million for Sri Lanka, aimed at rehabilitating infrastructure, including roads, railways, and bridges, as well as aiding housing and support for health and education.
During the meetings, EAM Jaishankar and Vijitha Herath inaugurated a 120-foot dual carriageway Bailey Bridge in the Kilinochchi District, which was severely affected by the cyclone.
"We jointly inaugurated the 120-foot dual carriageway Bailey Bridge in Kilinochchi, an area hard-hit by Cyclone Ditwah. The 110-tonne bridge was airlifted from India and installed as part of Operation Sagar Bandhu," EAM Jaishankar tweeted.
His arrival in Colombo on Monday was marked by a warm welcome from Sri Lankan Deputy Tourism Minister Ruwan Ranasinghe.
This visit underscores India's Neighbourhood First Policy in the context of Operation Sagar Bandhu, initiated to address the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Operation Sagar Bandhu was launched on November 28, making India the first responder in the immediate aftermath of the cyclone, providing urgent humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) support to Sri Lanka.
