Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 6 (NationPress) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) executed a series of coordinated raids on Friday targeting various businesses and individuals tied to industrialist Anil Ambani and Reliance Power Ltd.
As per sources within the agency, the operations spanned 10 to 12 locations throughout Mumbai, the financial hub of India.
A specialized team of around 15 units from the ED initiated the searches in the early morning, concentrating on the registered offices and residential properties of individuals associated with the power company, sources revealed.
The raids are reportedly part of an investigation into dubious fund transfers and transactions linked to Reliance Power.
At the time of reporting, the ED had not released an official statement regarding the raids conducted on Friday.
Previously, the ED had provisionally attached Anil Ambani's luxurious Pali Hill residence, valued at ₹3,716.83 crores, as part of its probe into a bank fraud case involving Reliance Communications Ltd., according to an official communication.
The Enforcement Directorate Special Task Force has provisionally attached the property in accordance with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA). Earlier, a portion of this property was attached for ₹473.17 crores, as stated by the financial investigative body.
In a related development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) also conducted searches at Anil Ambani's residences and Reliance Communications (RCom) offices last month, following the registration of a second case against the company based on a complaint from Bank of Baroda dated February 24, involving conspiracy and cheating under the IPC, along with criminal misconduct and abuse of official position under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
This case implicates Anil Ambani, the promoter and former Chairman of Reliance Communications, and others, according to a statement from the premier investigative agency.
The FIR alleges that Bank of Baroda incurred losses exceeding ₹2,220 crores due to loans taken by Reliance Communications, which were reportedly diverted and misused through fictitious transactions with related parties. There were manipulations in the company's accounts, obscuring irregularities.
Following the filing of this case, the CBI has executed searches at Anil Ambani's residence and the registered offices of Reliance Communications Ltd. Numerous documents related to these loan transactions have been recovered, as stated in their announcement.
