During a meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, the visiting Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty delivered a message on Friday from Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, highlighting Egypt's solidarity with Lebanon and its readiness to assist in the reconstruction of vital sectors such as electricity and gas, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
As stated by the Lebanese presidency, Abdelatty emphasized that Egyptian firms are eager to partake in Lebanon's rebuilding efforts. He reiterated Egypt's steadfast support for Lebanon's stability, the execution of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and the unconditional withdrawal of Israel from occupied Lebanese areas.
He reaffirmed Egypt's dedication to backing the Lebanese military and aiding the return of displaced individuals to their homes in southern Lebanon and the western Bekaa region.
The Egyptian foreign minister assured that Egypt is actively involved in diplomatic pursuits to maintain Lebanon's sovereignty and foster regional stability.
In response, Aoun expressed gratitude for Egypt's ongoing support, highlighting the necessity of reactivating a joint Lebanese-Egyptian committee once a new Lebanese government is established.
Aoun also reiterated Lebanon's demand for Israel's withdrawal from occupied territories by the February 18 deadline under an extended truce agreement with Hezbollah, rejecting any attempts to postpone this process. He also advocated for Arab unity in confronting common challenges.
In a separate visit to Beirut, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular and Parliamentary Affairs Vahid Jalalzadeh also confirmed his nation’s commitment to supporting Lebanon across various sectors, including humanitarian aid for Syrian refugees, according to Lebanon's official National News Agency.
After his meeting with Lebanese counterpart Abdallah Bou Habib, Jalalzadeh stated, "We engaged with Lebanese officials on the challenges faced by Syrian refugees who fled due to the turmoil in their country. We have advocated for close and constructive collaboration to ensure they receive the necessary care and support."
Jalalzadeh reiterated Iran's unwavering support for Lebanon, declaring, "Iran has always stood by Lebanon under all circumstances. We are also fully prepared to provide assistance in this humanitarian matter."
The Iranian official dismissed allegations that Iran was channeling funds to Hezbollah through Lebanon's primary airport, adding, "Iranian nationals in Lebanon comply with all local laws and regulations."
