Beijing, July 3 (NationPress) The Ministry of Water Resources of China has initiated a Level-IV emergency response in the northwest province of Qinghai due to an impending wave of heavy rainfall.

Forecasts indicate that heavy rainfall will impact eastern and southern Qinghai from Thursday through Saturday. Consequently, significant increases in water levels are expected in the upper mainstream and tributaries of the Yellow River, with some small to medium rivers in severely affected areas likely to face floods surpassing warning thresholds.

Local governments are urged to bolster flood monitoring and early warning systems, ensuring effective flood management for rivers and safeguarding the lives and property of residents.

In light of 24-hour rainfall predictions, the ministry has issued warnings for ten additional provincial-level regions, including Hebei, Liaoning, and Hainan, advising them to take preventive measures and prepare for adverse weather.

A Level-IV emergency response is also currently active in the provincial-level areas of Chongqing, Sichuan, and Gansu, as reported by Xinhua.

China's emergency response framework operates on a four-tier system, with Level I representing the highest level of response severity.

Since mid-June, extensive rainfall and severe flooding have affected many provinces. The situation is especially critical in regions such as Rongjiang and Congjiang in the Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture of Guizhou, where numerous evacuations have occurred and notable damage has been reported.

Rongjiang County, famous as the birthplace of the Village Super League or Cun Chao, is undergoing post-disaster recovery after suffering two major floods within a week. Since June 24, consecutive floods have submerged significant portions of the county, with the Cun Chao stadium, located in a low-lying urban zone, inundated twice in just five days.

Emergency funding has also been announced to assist affected regions in reviving normal activities and economic functions as quickly as possible, as stated by the ministry.

Tragically, six individuals have lost their lives due to the severe flooding in Rongjiang County in southwestern Guizhou Province.
