Explosives Cache Found in Nagpur's Residential Neighborhood: 15 Gelatin Sticks and 50 Detonators Seized
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Nagpur, April 7 (NationPress) A significant stash of explosives was discovered in a residential neighborhood close to CA Road in Nagpur on Tuesday, raising alarming security issues in one of the city's most vulnerable areas, officials reported.
The police disclosed that the hazardous materials were hidden within a bag located in a small garden behind a residence near Dosar Bhavan Chowk.
This alarming find was made early in the morning when family members living at the property noticed cartridges sticking out of the bag and quickly notified the authorities.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rahul Madane confirmed that the family had alerted the police about the suspicious items, prompting immediate action from security forces.
In a swift response, local police and bomb disposal teams arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area as a precaution.
A comprehensive search operation was launched to ensure no additional explosive materials were present nearby, with forensic experts deployed to conduct a detailed examination of the seized items.
During the operation, officials uncovered 15 gelatin sticks (cartridges), around 50 to 58 detonators, and eight connectors. All materials were safely confiscated and transported to an undisclosed location for further analysis, according to police reports.
"The family noticed suspicious materials this morning and promptly informed us. Upon searching, we discovered 15 cartridges in their garden, and further searches revealed approximately 58 detonators... We are investigating the area for more potential hazards, and checking CCTV footage as well," Madane informed reporters.
Initial assessments indicate that the explosives may have been stored at the site for around one and a half months, which raises further concerns regarding how they went undetected for such a lengthy period.
Investigations are ongoing, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
